Fiber Arts class

It has been a couple weeks since the last post on this blog.  The blame can be placed solely on the shoulders of a young man who has stolen my heart.  My first grandchild was born in mid September.  This new grandmother, heretofore to be called GiGi, has been in Texas helping the little scamp and his parents.  Lots of laundry, lots of diaper changes but most of all lots of love, snuggles and sweet baby time.

In the quiet moments of rocking the little one I have had time to think about this blog,  the upcoming quilt show and the Paths of Faith class I will be leading.

Here is the course description:

Calling all quilters!  What you don’t quilt but you always wished you could?  Here is your moment.  Debra Godwin, counselor, Bible student and excellent quilter will begin a unique Fabric Arts class on October 14.  The class will begin at 7:00 pm and will last until 8:30 or 9:00 in the evening.  You do not need supplies initially, you do not know how to quilt, but you must want to learn to quilt and create a piece to glorify God.  As Debra teaches our hands to quilt she plans to weave into our hearts a love and foundation for God.  There is no fee, no fuss, just conversation, creativity and openness to the presence of God in our lives.

One does not need to be a member of Fairfax United Methodist Church, or any other church for that matter, to participate in the class.  If you are interested just call the church at 703-591-3120.

I am more than a little bit anxious about the class.  Questions race through my mind. Will people sign up?  Will the class meet expectations for a spiritual growth experience, as well as, a  quilt techniques class?  Then a still quiet voice loving reminds me that my job is to prepare and show up; His job is all the rest.  The impact of the class, this blog and the fiber arts show are all in His divine hands.  Christians are called to obey, preach the gospel and leave the conversion of hearts to Him.

How comforting are the words of Jesus found in John 6:44 NIV "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.

My prayer for you tonight and every night is that the love of the Lord and Savior of the World envelop you like a warm, soft quilt.

Blessings,

Debra

Forms, don't you love them?

As promised in my previous post the forms for this challenge have been posted.  They can be found on the buttons at the top of the blog.  Just click on one and print it out.  There are only three forms. 1) A list of rules to provide structure to this endeavor, 2)An entry application form which is essentially an artist information sheet and 3) a release to obtain your  written permission for your work of art to appear in the show, be photographed and appear on the blog.

Thank you in advance for participating in this project.

Gratefully,

Debra

In the beginning...

Shalom Aleichem, Peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus, the Christ.  Welcome!  I am thrilled that you have stopped by. Get a cuppa and sit down for a spell.  Relax and enjoy.

The purpose of this blog is to motivate you to participate in the first ever,
Glorifying Jesus Christ Fiber Arts 2015 Mother’s Day Quilt Challenge.  WOW! What a mouthful!

As the name implies this quilt challenge is about glorifying Jesus.  Do you have to be a Christian to participate?  No, as long as you follow the few simple challenge rules that applies to all participants.

I certainly hope as you journey through the process of creating a quilt that honors Jesus you will be drawn toward Him, learn more about Him and/or increase your curiosity about Him.  Again, you are not required to be a professing Christian to participate.

Perhaps you are wondering how this project got started.  The idea popped fully developed into my mind several years ago as I was pondering how I could merge my devotion to Christ with my enjoyment of quilting.  For years while working on quilt projects I have prayed for the intended recipients.  Each of my quilt labels contained a verse of scripture appropriate to the theme of the quilt.  As time passed the Holy Spirit prompting me to do more.  I embraced the idea of coordinating a quilt show at my local church.

Then life got in the way.  After coping with two significant health events—I’ll kindly spare you the details—I finally had regained the strength to venture forward with this adventure.

Fairfax United Methodist Church council graciously approved the use of the church building to host the event Mother’s Day weekend 2015.  Several of my fellow parishioners have expressed interest in helping with the project.   And so we begin.

BTW this is my first time blogging.  My hope for this blog is rather lofty—photos, videos, captivating commentary and lots of encouragement.  My goal is to blog at least once a week and possibly more frequently.

Please spread the word about this quilt challenge.  The project will be a success whether there are 10 entries or 110.

The next post will contain the details, rules and forms for the challenge.
